In addition to the examination of current school facilities by architectural and engineering experts (see Section Project Team), Concordia will hold five community-wide meetings, that will involve all members of the community, but also a committed core group that will be known as the Community Planning Committee (CPC). The CPC, which will consist of 100-150 people, will take part in all of the workshop meetings and work together to come up with a set of recommendations to the District Administrators and School Board. These community-wide meetings (see "Mark Your Calendars" in the box to the right) will take place all on Saturdays, approximately one per month in Jamuary through the beginning of June.

Each community-wide meeting will have a different focus and purpose along the road to the CPC making its recommendations.

1. Convening – Growing a Learning Community
Who? What? When? Where? How? Local and National Guest
Thought Leaders will present and prompt conversations about what is possible for Santa Monica/Malibu Education Community. Breakout sessions will allow Santa Monica- Malibu attendees to ask pertinent questions of the experts.

2. Workshop #1 - Where are we now?
(Those community members who sign up and are selected will participate in this workshop and the following three meetings. These people will comprise the CPC. All other community members are welcomed to attend, observe, and comment.) Utilizing the recently completed assessment of school facilities in SMMUSD, this workshop will focus on existing conditions and community educational needs and assets.

3. Workshop #2 - Where are we going?
Utilizing the educational strategic plan document, this workshop
will analyze and assess those goals in terms of specific facilities
issues in SMMUSD.

4. Workshop #3 - What does it look like?
Trading on prior workshop analysis, this meeting will focus on
site level planning and strategic facilities issues within SMMUSD.

5. Workshop #4 - How do we do it?
This workshop will serve to summarize the community planning
committee's consensus for renovation and new construction
building recommendations within the SMMUSD and will detail
those recommendations for use by school district administrators
in their planning process.
