After Workshop #3, it was decided that the Project Team required additional information about some of the more complex sites in the District. In order to "drill down" further, it was decided to hold a fourth workshop in two parts, one at Samohi, focusing on the Santa Monica school sites, and a second at Malibu Middle and High School, focusing on Malibu sites. It was also considered important to hold these workshops prior to the conclusion of the 2006-7 school year, so that the Project Team architects would have all of the necessary information to provide an interim report to the school district before the summer school break began. The first meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, May 31, 2006 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at Malibu High School. The second meeting was scheduled for Friday, June 2, 2006 from 3:30 until 5:00 p.m. at Santa Monica High School. These hands-on workshops provided foam core models, or kits-of-parts, for the community members to manipulate. The emphasis of these workshops was to have a "charette" that allowed the SMMUSD community to refine its ideas on paper. Careful notes of each meeting were taken, so that the architects could verify their ideas and record any new ideas. Agendas were crafted and made available to the community ahead of time.
